we’re introducing “Ichijyoma Mankitsu Gurashi!” which starts streaming this season!
First of all, you’re probably wondering, “What exactly is ‘Mankitsu’ in the title?”
Well, a “Mankitsu” is what you’d call an “Internet Cafe” or “Comic Cafe” in English!
Just as the name suggests, these cafes are packed with tons of manga and PCs.
You rent your own personal space where you can read comics and browse the internet to your heart’s content!

They’re full-on entertainment complexes! You can order food, and some places even feature karaoke, billiards, and darts!
I found a video by an international creator showing off a Japanese “Mankitsu,” so definitely check it out!
By the way, the “IchijouMa” in the title refers to the size of the private booths you can rent, which is about 1.62 square meters (approx. 17.4 sq ft)!
Now, back to the anime itself!
The story is set in a certain girls’ high school dormitory, but get this-the dorm itself is actually the “Mankitsu” we just talked about!
A dorm combined with a Mankitsu? For manga and anime lovers, that’s literal heaven, right?
However, the dorm’s business isn’t exactly booming… in fact, they have a massive debt of 628,000 dollars…
“Ichijyoma Mankitsu Gurashi!” is the story of our protagonist, Meiko Morita, and the rest of the cast as they struggle to save and rebuild this “Ichijyoma Mankitsu Gurashi!”.

Summary
Meiko Morita, a high schooler living in Akita, is suddenly selected as a special transfer student to the prestigious girls’ school Amamiya Girls’ Academy. With both excitement and nerves, she heads to Tokyo to begin her new life.
But what awaits her isn’t a typical student dorm—it’s a manga café called “Hedgehog”, which also functions as a shared dormitory!
Living in a tiny one-tatami room and working at the café as part of her daily duties, Meiko finds herself surrounded by quirky fellow residents—and so begins her slightly strange, manga-filled Tokyo life!
